All individuals must change from one task to the next throughout the day. Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder may have greater difficulty in making these changes. Change can bring about anxiety and fear for people with ASD. Concepts related to time are fairly abstract. A visual timer can show the passing of time and therefore prepare the individual for change. ASD TimerĀ© shows the passing of time without the need to tell time. This reduces the amount of transition time between tasks, increasing appropriate behaviour during transitions and developing independence and self management skills. Timers are a wonderful visual aid for individuals needing help with transitioning from one task to another. Conventional timers can cost upwards of $30 to $40 and are subject to physical breakdown.
